Welcome to The Alpine Garden
Nursery, a new Alaskan source for hardy garden plants.
We opened in the spring of 2007, and offer a wide selection of
rare, unusual, and
garden tested perennials and rock garden plants for Alaska and
the far north.
Just as our nursery stock is constantly changing, so are our web pages. Please check back often.
Our primary business is a retail nursery located on 1.6 acres about 45 miles north of Anchorage Alaska. We are located Matanuska Susitna Borough, halfway between the towns of Palmer and Wasilla. Our business grew out of our participation in garden club plants sales over the past 10 years. We grow most of our plants from seed or divisions from our own gardens. We offer a specialty selection of plants not found in the big box stores or mainstream nurseries. Much of our seed stock comes from seed exchanges, specialty seed catalogs and seed collection expeditions.
The Alpine Garden Nursery is a
sole proprietorship owned by Jaime Rodriguez, a long time member
of:
The Alaska Botanic Garden, The Alaska Rock Garden Society, The
North American Rock Garden Society,
The Valley Garden Club, The Willow Garden Club, and The Alaska
Wildflower Society.
Jaime is best known for his
encyclopedic memory of the latin names of plants. He also helped
organize the Alaska Rock Garden Society expedition to China in
2000 with Dan Hinkley, and is also the author of the chapter
titled "Rock Gardening in Alaska" in the North American
Rock Garden Society book, Rock Garden Construction, published
by Timber Press in 2003.
He has been the Superintendent for the cut flower exhibit at The
Alaska State Fair in Palmer since 1998.
Jaime is assisted in the nursery by his colleagues Karin Covey and Beth Amberg.
